Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo Resumes Smartphone Manufacturing in India

The COVID-19 pandemic spares no industry as countries undergo nationwide lockdowns to prevent the spread of the virus. India on the other hand, starts to slowly lift its restrictions as the country transitions to “a new normal.” These actions forced manufacturers like Samsung, Oppo, and Xiaomi to suspend their smartphone production line but are slowly recovering as restrictions slowly lift.

We have received requisite permissions to restart production at our Noida factory. On Thursday, the factory started limited operations, which will be scaled up over a period of time. Employee safety and well-being remaining our absolute priority, we have ensured that all hygiene and social distancing measures are maintained at the premises, as per government guidelines

Samsung India issued a statement confirming its smartphone production in Noida has resumed albeit in a limited capacity. Xiaomi also confirmed that Foxconn, its manufacturing partner, has been approved to resume its operations in Andhra and Pradesh. Oppo also wants to resume operations in its Greater Noida factory. Vivo also confirmed that it resumed its factory operations but only at 30% production capacity.

Considering restrictions, and limited supply and manpower, we might see smartphone prices for newer models. The smartphone brands mentioned earlier are also cutting their smartphone camera lens orders for Q2 2020.
