Razer Edge Announced!: A Windows 8 Tablet made for Gaming

The Project Fiona that was introduced from CES 2012 just transformed into Razer Edge! This thing is not just a tablet. This is a console, a full-feature PC with Windows 8 and a tablet. This baby, is every gamers dream, a must have for hardcores. The Razer Edge is very interesting because aside from having a specs that is enough to play the latest games on the market, this tablet like what I’ve said earlier transforms into a console. Yes, a console. You can transform it into a home console or a mobile console with those accessories which are sold separately. This baby is available in two variants — Razer Edge and Razer Edge Pro. When the Project Fiona was announced last year, the tablet originally had a controller but the Razer Edge’s design was revised and just made it into an optional accessory. I think, that made sense. Why? The Tablets are made for portability and if the controller was sticked to the tablet then it will be less portable and it will be very annoying to put it on our small bag. It also gave way to more accessories to be attached on the Razer Edge like the dock and the keyboard.

The Keyboard dock looks nice. I really like their signature color — Green. The Mobile controller is very unique too, It looks like a Playstation Move controller attached to the tablet but it doesn’t look that bad. I really hope that the weight of the tablet and the controller won’t strain your hands and arms. And then there’s the docking station in which you can connect your display and different peripherals such as controllers.

The Razer Edge starts at $999 with this specifications:

While here’s the bigger and better brother, Razer Edge Pro which starts at $1299

The 1366×768 display sounds logical because a better display means more power. It could lessen the battery life of the tablet. They didn’t announce the battery life but I guess it should be around to 3-5 hours on normal usage or 2 hours of gaming. Expect a shorter battery life on gaming since this one uses a dedicated video card. The tablet will use the Intel HD4000 if it doesn’t need much power like when you’re browsing the web but if you’re playing games, the tablet automatically switch to NVIDIA.

The tablet will be available on Q1 and it starts at $999. The optional controller’s MSRP is $249. The docking station’s MSRP is $99 while the extended battery’s MSRP is $69.

This device is a beast. I wish I have one. I don’t think this one will be available locally but you can buy it online or some gray market. Don’t expect long battery life on this tablet because this tablet is made for gaming not for long travels or whatsoever. I still think that this one is a much better buy than the Surface Pro and even the entry level Macbook Air.

Do I want this? Yes. Will I buy this 2013? No, because I don’t have enough money. Unless someone will donate or just give me this unit. If you’re asking me for a review, I don’t think I can have one but I’ll try my best to convince Razer to lend me one (And of course ask it as an early Chritmas gift!) and show its prowess to you guys.
