On today’s review, we have the ASUS RTX 2070 Dual Mini OC. With the recent price drop of the RTX 20-series, we look at how effective it still is to use on versus buying the newly released RTX 30-series.
ASUS was able to take a powerful GPU and shrunk the PCB and cooling to make it fit smaller PC builds, and still retain the factory overclocking including the excellent cooling. This can even fir in an Intel NUC 9 Extreme Kit, Intel NUC 9 Pro-Kit, and other smaller chassis allowing great GPU performance in IXT platforms.
FANS
The ASUS RTX 2070 Mini OC has two axial tech fan design fans utilizing the ASUS Axial-technology. The Axial-tech fans has a smaller design for the fan hub allowing longer blades that increase the downward air pressure and still have a 0dB technology to shut off below 55c for more silent operation.
ASUS allows adjusting power target and GPU voltage, fan speeds and profile curves with hardware monitoring using the ASUS GPU Tweak II. Despite the small form factor of the ASUS RTX 2070 Mini OC, it still provides the ability to tweak it and overclock it.
Gaming Benchmarks
The Horizon Zero Dawn which is optimized for AMD Radeon cards, the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse 8GB shows a 12% rise of FPS versus ASUS’ RTX 2070 Mini OC Edition on the average FPS while on the minimum FPS, it was a close match.
Final Fantasy XV
With Final Fantasy XV, the ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 Mini OC Edition shows that it almost has no difference in performance compared to its AMD counterpart, the RX 5700 XT.
Metro: Last Light Redux
Metro: Last Light Redux shows a close to 1% performance advantage compared to the Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse 8Gb on both the average and minimum FPS.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Rise of the Tomb Raider gives us an idea of what performance the ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 Mini OC Edition gives under heavy loads of rendering. At 1080P it shows great promise and performance beating the AMD RX 5700 XT.
3DMark Fire Strike measures performance on a DirectX 11 benchmark design. It details real-time graphics rendered.
Despite the form factor, the ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 Mini OC Edition still packs great power and performs close to the Sapphire RX5700 XT.
Conclusion.
Customization on NVIDIA and AMD based video cards have become unique and creative using PCBs, heatsink and cooling solutions, factory overclocks and adding necessary features that are uncommon to GPUs. These are normally the features that enthusiasts look for and is suited for specific purposes.
Finally, the ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 Mini OC Edition is still an optimal choice for the current games that are out in the market. For those planning to build a high-performance and compact gaming or working system, the ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 is still a go-to choice.
Though one of the downsides of the video card is that it does not have a backplate and the temperatures may rise quite a bit. All-in-all, the ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 Mini OC Edition is still a good choice for those who want to have an affordable yet powerful PC Build.
