Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro is one of the latest midrange smartphone to arrive in the Philippines and it delivers an impressive features for an affordable price point as the Redmi Note 12 Pro features a decent midrange hardware including a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor and also a 50MP main camera.
Design and hardware
The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G features a block-y and squarish design which makes the smartphone looking like a tough one. The smartphone features a flat sides along with the flat back but the back of the smartphone is actually glossy, which makes it prone to fingerprints.
The back is surprisingly made up of glass and again, the smartphone is box-y which makes the smartphone a little bit on unergonomic side but nonetheless, using the included case helps a lot in the smartphone’s grip and ergonomics.
Surprisingly, the smartphone comes with a headphone jack which is located at the top of the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G and then there’s the USB-C port below the smartphone that supports 67W Wired Charging along with the dual-sim card tray.
For the fingerprint scanner, the smartphone does come with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and it was fast enough. I was also surprise with how good the speakers of the smartphone are.
Display
For the display of the Redmi Note 12 Pro, there’s the 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display along with the 120Hz refresh rate on the smartphone The bezels on the smartphone are thin on this one while the colors are great and excellent. Under direct sunlight, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G is great as well.
I actually liked that the smartphone comes with a flat display as playing games like Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail and also Call of Duty Mobile was flawless on the smartphone and uninterrupted. Combined with that is the fast refresh rate and also its responsive touch response.
Battery life
The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G comes with a 5000mAh battery which is common these days and then there’s the 67W Fast Wired charging to fill it up fast as well. In PC Mark Work 2.0 Battery test, we got a score of 12 hours and 29 minutes on the smartphone which is already decent for the hardware inside it.
Software and Performance
The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G comes with MIUI 14 that is based on Android 13 and it’s still fast, smooth, responsive and I really like the colors of the UI. It does come with a lot of software and pre-installed apps and bloatwares.
For the performance, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor and the smartphone was able to performed as expected. With different games that we tried, we were pretty happy with Dimensity 1080 processor. We tried playing Call of Duty Mobile on the smartphone and it was flawless as expected along with Mobile Legends.
As for Genshin Impact, the smartphone was able to run it at lowest settings but up to 60fps. The good thing about the smartphone and its processor is that the smartphone doesn’t heat up that much despite playing for a longer time.
When it comes to benchmarks, it’s definitely what we can expect from a smartphone with its hardware.
Camera
For the camera, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G comes with a 50MP main camera along with 8MP ultra wide camera and also a 2MP macro camera. For the selfie camera, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G comes with a 16MP selfie camera.
The quality that we got are good for well-lit and bright environments. The colors are great and I’ve noticed that the AI does help in the shots that I took as it produces more vivid colors than expected.
For selfies, it was good as well but sometimes at low light conditions, we’ve noticed that it gets smoothen out too much by post-processing.
Verdict
The Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G does offer a lot for its price. It packs a powerful Dimensity 1080 processor inside, a decent camera, a fast charging, and a good display. It might not have the best in everything but the Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G performed better than I expected.
