The OPPO A5s will be a hit in the market as the smartphone features an affordable price and hardware that will surely interest the Filipinos. This is the successor of the popular OPPO A3s that also brought powerful hardware on an affordable smartphone. Check it out in our review below.
OPPO A5s Review: Design and Hardware
The OPPO A5s features a plastic body but it does look like glossy glass but once you hold it, you’ll feel that it’s plastic but don’t worry because it doesn’t feel cheap despite having a very affordable price tag for the smartphone.
Yep, not cheap thanks to the metal frame of the smartphone which is a surprise for its price range. Thanks to that, the OPPO A5s feels solid than the most smartphone in its price range. The review unit that we got comes in black and it does look good with the gold accents on the fingerprint scanner and the camera. It might look plain to you but the smartphone look classy and fine to me
When it comes to ergonomics, the OPPO A5s does have rounded sides which help in the ergonomics on the smartphone but it isn’t perfect but hey, there’s an included jelly case in the box too just in case you want to protect your smartphone and yeah, it does help in the grip of the smartphone.
When it comes to ports, well, we still have a micro USB port below along with the 3.5mm audio jack and you can find the speaker grill beside it. Again, there’s the fingerprint scanner at the back which is pretty fast and then there’s the face unlock in case you want it faster. And yep, both face unlock methods are fast.
OPPO A5s Review: Display
There’s a 6.2-inch HD+ waterdrop display with a 19:9 display aspect ratio that features a tiny notch and there’s a Gorilla Glass 3 protection on this smartphone for tougher display against cracks and scratches.
In our review, the OPPO A5s display was just fine for me for an entry-level smartphone. It may not be perfect but again, we need to understand that this smartphone is just an entry-level and affordable smartphone. It may not be as sharp as we expected but the colors are fine and the outdoor visibility of the smartphone is decent enough.
OPPO A5s Review: Battery life
Battery life is one of the advantages of the entry-level OPPO smartphones is the battery life and the OPPO A5s doesn’t disappoint as this one has a score of 11 hours and 38 minutes in PCMark and without a doubt, the smartphone lasted more than a day of usage. So if you’re the type of person who is worried about the battery life of their smartphone most of the time, well, this one should be on your list.
OPPO A5s Review: Software
Just like other OPPO smartphones, the OPPO A5s features ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo which is very user-friendly and easy to use. I didn’t have any problems using it except that this smartphone is using an older version of the operating system instead of the latest one.
OPPO A5s Review: Performance
One of the main selling points of the OPPO A5s is the performance. The predecessor, OPPO A3s, features an affordable price, good performance, and long battery life and so far, the OPPO A5s does perform well in all aspects. When it comes to performance, the smartphone uses a MediaTek Helio P35 processor with PowerVR GE8320 GPU inside and here are the benchmarks that we got on the smartphone.
Since this is an entry-level smartphone, I didn’t expect too much from this smartphone but it did perform well in our benchmarks, the OPPO A5s scored as expected for an entry-level smartphone and if you’re looking in to play PUBG Mobile or heavier games, well, don’t expect that you’ll have a better experience on this one but if you’re planning to play casual and lighter games like Mobile Legends then the OPPO A5s will be just fine for you. Check out the Gamebench scores that we got on this smartphone.

OPPO A5s Review: Camera
The OPPO A5s features a dual-lens rear camera at the back that is comprised of 13MP+2MP while on the selfie side, you got an 8MP selfie camera. Overall, the camera of the OPPO A5s is pretty well for an entry-level. It can get nice shots in daylight or at well-lit conditions and the portrait mode will do just fine on this smartphone but as expected, the smartphone will struggle at low light. The selfie camera of the smartphone will do just fine for an entry-level smartphone but do expect that some shots are a little bit overexposed. However, despite the praises, the OPPO A5s still doesn’t pack the best camera out there in its price range. Check out the shots that I took using the smartphone.
Using the selfie mode of the smartphone with AI beauty will give you a more natural-looking skin compared to the predecessor but sometimes, the AI beautification is just too much. But hey, at least we can get better selfies on the OPPO A5s.
OPPO A5s Review: Verdict
The OPPO A5s is a decent entry-level smartphone. It might not be perfect and it might not have a drastic change compared to the predecessor but the OPPO A5s will still be a decent smartphone thanks to the long battery life of the smartphone thanks to the low power consumption of the chipset and HD display.
If you’re into the entry-level segment and who are looking for a smartphone that can last long then the OPPO A5s might be the one for you. It might not have the best camera and performance but the OPPO A5s will still do well in those mentioned departments.
