Ookla has confirmed PLDT, as the nation’s fastest internet provider for the fifth year running, with an impressive speed score of 86.52 in 2022. PLDT’s consistent dominance at the Ookla Speedtest Awards is a result of the company’s aggressive network expansion and dedication to enhancing customer experience.
PLDT’s efforts have supported the digital transformation of the Philippines, with its 6.08 million fiber-powered ports covering around 17,700 barangays across the nation.
PLDT remains the only Philippine telco capable of delivering fiber-optic speeds of up to 10 Gbps, positioning the nation alongside South Korea, Japan, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA in terms of ultra-fast internet access. By the end of 2022, PLDT Home had amassed 2.9 million fiber subscribers, capturing 59% of the industry’s fiber customer growth.
To further enhance customers’ digital experiences at home, PLDT Home has doubled the speeds of all its Fiber plans. Meanwhile, the PLDT Group, through its ICT subsidiary ePLDT, offers data center, multi-cloud, and cybersecurity solutions that enable the digital transformation of large companies and MSMEs.
PLDT and Singapore’s ViewQWest are the only Southeast Asian telcos to win the prestigious Ookla Speedtest Award for five consecutive years. Luke Deryckx, Ookla’s CTO, lauded PLDT’s superior network performance, saying they are “proud to recognize PLDT’s hard work in providing the fastest Internet experience in the Philippines.”
PLDT has also achieved top speeds in major Philippine areas, outperforming other major telcos in cities such as Pasig, Cagayan de Oro, and Baguio. The company’s expansive fiber network now spans 1.1 million kilometers and reaches 17.2 million homes, covering 68% of the country’s cities and municipalities.
