Apple Watch Series 9, Watch Ultra 2 to get new heart rate sensor, U2 chip

Apple is set to launch its new Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 on September 12. And while these watches might resemble their predecessors, some exciting upgrades are in store.

Advanced Heart Rate Sensor

One of the standout features is the introduction of a revamped heart rate sensor. Unlike the previous models, which featured the third-gen heart rate sensor, both the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will be equipped with an all-new optical heart rate sensor. This enhancement promises better accuracy and precision in tracking your heart health.

Improved Sensors and Components

U2 Ultrawide-Band Chip for Enhanced Find My Capabilities

Just like the recently unveiled iPhone 15 series, the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 will feature the U2 ultrawide-band chip. This addition is set to significantly enhance the Find My capabilities, making it even easier to locate your smartwatch if it ever goes missing.

Performance Takes Center Stage

This year, Apple is placing a strong emphasis on performance. In addition, these improvements are largely attributed to the new A15-based System-on-Chip (SoC) that will power the Watch Series 9.

Size Options and Sustainability

The Apple Watch Series 9 will be available in two size options – 41mm and 45mm, catering to a broader range of wrist sizes. On the other hand, the Watch Ultra 2, besides its standard model, is expected to feature a black color option and a more eco-conscious design with increased use of recycled materials.

A Shift Towards 3D-Printed Cases

Apple is also testing 3D-printed cases for the stainless steel models of the Watch Series 9. This shift towards 3D printing for the Ultra line is anticipated to commence in the coming year. Band Updates

Lastly, Apple is contemplating changes to its range of watch bands. Some leather options might be phased out, while stainless steel link bracelets are due for an update or potential discontinuation.
