ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507) Review

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507) is one of the first laptops to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon X chipset, a next-gen processor that powers Microsoft’s exclusive Copilot+ AI feature. Copilot+ enhances local AI processing, boasting over 40 TOPS thanks to the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) integration. This combination sets the stage for a laptop designed to streamline productivity, especially with AI-enhanced capabilities.

As one of the first devices with these features, we’re eager to see how it performs in real-world tasks and if it can deliver the productivity boost that ASUS promises.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Design

asus vivobook s review body

ASUS continues its minimalist aesthetic with the Vivobook S 15, and the Cool Silver model we tested doesn’t disappoint. The sleek metal chassis adds a premium feel to the laptop, though at 1.42 kilograms, it remains portable without being ultralight.

asus vivobook s review slim

Its slim profile of 0.63 inches makes it easy to slip into a bag, making daily commuting with a 15-inch laptop more manageable. However, the metal finish tends to attract marks from sweat and oil, which could become a concern for those who prioritize aesthetics.

For added privacy, ASUS has also included a physical camera toggle switch, allowing users to easily hide the webcam when not in use, which is a thoughtful feature for security-conscious users.

Meanwhile, one feature that stands out is the 180-degree hinge, which is perfect for sharing your screen during a meeting or a casual work session. Although the display lacks touchscreen functionality, the hinge’s flexibility makes it versatile in its own right.

Additionally, the full-sized keyboard fits nicely within the laptop’s dimensions. While the numpad is a bit squeezed, the overall layout ensures that typing remains comfortable. Plus, the keyboard’s 3-level blue backlighting is a handy touch when working in darker environments.

The large trackpad is also smooth and responsive, offering additional gesture functions, such as volume and brightness control with swipes. It compensates for the lack of a ScreenPad, ensuring an intuitive experience when handling tasks like spreadsheet navigation.

Overall, the design may not scream luxury, but it nails the essentials for practical, everyday use.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Display and Audio

asus vivobook s review multimedia

The Vivobook S 15 sports an immersive 15.6-inch 3K OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display delivers stunning visuals, offering vibrant colors and deep blacks, making it perfect for creative work, such as graphic design or photo editing. Watching movies or series on this OLED screen is great, especially with streaming platforms like Netflix. However, the glossy finish can become a bit of a distraction in well-lit environments due to its reflective nature, so you may need to adjust the screen’s angle frequently when working near bright windows.

harman kardon asus

As for the audio, the Harman Kardon-tuned speakers deliver clear sound quality, but they could benefit from more volume and bass depth. While fine for casual listening, users looking for a richer, more immersive sound experience for music or movies might want to invest in external speakers or high-quality headphones.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Ports and Connectivity

asus vivobook s review ports left

Despite its slim profile, ASUS packed the Vivobook S 15 with a versatile array of ports. On the left, you’ll find an HDMI 2.1 port, a microSD card reader, a 3.5mm audio jack, and two USB 4.0 Type-C ports, which support both power delivery and display output. On the right, ASUS surprises with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an excellent addition for those who still rely on traditional USB connections.

When it comes to wireless connectivity, the Vivobook S 15 doesn’t disappoint. With support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, connectivity is stable, and we experienced no issues with dropouts or pairing devices. The range of ports and reliable wireless performance ensure this laptop is well-equipped for everyday tasks.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Software and AI Integration

asus vivobook s review copilot

One of the standout features of the Vivobook S 15 is its deep integration with Microsoft Copilot, an AI-powered assistant that’s just a click away. This tool is incredibly useful for quick tasks such as drafting emails or fact-checking, boosting overall productivity. For users who are familiar with AI-based workflows, Copilot+ adds significant value to the experience. For others, it might feel more like a novelty at first, but its practical benefits become apparent with regular use.

Meanwhile, Windows 11 works great with the Snapdragon X Elite’s dedicated NPU. This processor powers Cocreator, an AI feature that enables users to generate art from simple sketches with various styles, including oil painting and anime. ASUS also brings its own AI feature to the table with StoryCube, a handy tool that categorizes your photos into scenes and people, making browsing your image library more intuitive.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Performance

In terms of day-to-day performance, the Snapdragon X Elite processor ensures smooth multitasking, making it great for activities like web browsing, document editing, and video calls. With multiple browser tabs and light productivity tasks running simultaneously, the Vivobook S 15 delivered satisfying experience.

However, during gaming tests, we encountered significant issues. Although games like Asphalt 9 ran smoothly at first, they crashed after a short while, causing the laptop to restart.

The same pattern occurred when running benchmarking apps, showing that this laptop is not suited for high-performance gaming or demanding tasks like 3D rendering.

Here are some of its benchmark results, which we’re able to run successfully:

In its current state, the Snapdragon X Elite processor delivers decent performance, but underwhelming for a device at this price point.

Additionally, it’s clear that Qualcomm and Microsoft need to work on improving the compatibility of apps and games for the Snapdragon X Elite platform. Many applications simply don’t work, which is a major drawback for those expecting seamless performance across all their favorite apps.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Battery Life

On a positive note, the Vivobook S 15 excels when it comes to battery life. Equipped with a 70WHrs Lithium-ion battery, the laptop can last up to 15 hours on a single charge during typical productivity tasks. This makes it ideal for long workdays or commutes without worrying about frequent recharging. The device also supports USB-C Power Delivery, allowing you to charge from 0% to full in under two hours. ASUS claims the battery can last up to 18 hours, though real-world usage puts it closer to 15 hours unless power-saving adjustments are made.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 Review: Verdict

At Php84,995, the Vivobook S 15 comes with a premium price tag, offering an exceptional OLED display, solid build quality, and innovative AI features powered by the Snapdragon X Elite processor.

One of its standout features is the impressive battery life. With up to 15 hours of usage on a single charge, this laptop is a reliable companion for professionals who need a device that can last through long workdays without the need for constant recharging. Basically, it’s a strong contender for users who prioritize mobility and productivity.

However, for power users or those who require more from their device, such as gaming or 3D rendering, this laptop may not meet expectations. Qualcomm and Microsoft still need to work on improving app and game compatibility, as several programs didn’t function as expected during the review.

Overall, with future improvements to the Snapdragon X Elite’s performance, the Vivobook S 15 could become a top choice for those seeking both everyday productivity and AI-enhanced functionality.
