Cherry Mobile’s Flare series is one of the most popular smartphone series in the country and currently, they have 3 members on their current generation of Flare smartphones and these are Flare 4, Flare S4, and the Flare S4 Plus. The first two packs a similar specification while the bigger one, the Flare S4 Plus, has a better hardware. Want to know more about this smartphone? Check out my whole review below.
Hardware and Design
One of the biggest features of the 4th generation Flare series smartphones is that their smartphone now packs a premium body. In the case of the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus, the smartphone packs a metal frame along with the plastic body. It’s a combination of plastic and metal on a smartphone and yet, the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus feels very solid.
The large logo of Cherry Mobile and Flare at the back isn’t really enticing because I’ve always preferred a minimalistic look along with the smaller logo of the brand. The back of the smartphone is very plastic too but the smartphone still feels very solid despite having a plastic back because of its metal frame.
Having a premium design on the Flare S4 Plus comes with a compromise. Yes, there’s the metal frame and the solid body but the back cover and the battery of the smartphone isn’t removable but don’t worry because the smartphone comes with a sim card tray that comes in two different trays.
The buttons of the smartphone are nicely placed at the right side of the smartphone while the MicroUSB Port is placed below the smartphone along with the speaker grill. However, the capacitive buttons of the smartphone don’t light up and it might confuse some people who are not used to the capacitive buttons on the smartphone. One thing that you got to love about 64-bit MediaTek processors is that these processors now comes with LTE. Yes, you can now browse the web with LTE at a much affordable smartphone.
Display
One advantage of having this smartphone is its display. There’s a Full HD IPS OGS 5.5-inch display on Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus and it’s bigger and better than its Flare 4 and S4 brothers. The display of this smartphone is bright, it’s completely usable outside and the colors were really nice.
Bigger displays like on this smartphone is ideal for gaming and I think the 5.5-inch display is just perfect for browsing the web, using it as a phone, and even playing games. The display might have a good output but I have a gripe on Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus’ display. The smartphone’s display isn’t as responsive as I expected and I’m having trouble with it maybe because I got used to very responsive and sensitive displays on smartphones.
Software and Performance
Again, the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus is currently the most powerful member of the current Flare series and this smartphone doesn’t disappoint. It can’t match up the latest processors from Qualcomm but it can still do its job well and without problems.
When it comes to gaming the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus doesn’t disappoint. Remember, this smartphone got a MediaTek MT6753 Octa-Core Processor, one of the best affordable chips of MediaTek that can offer all your needs on your smartphone including LTE and a decent performance. When it comes to gaming, this smartphone can run NBA 2k16, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Mortal Combat X.
The smartphone is powered by Android 5.1 and it might not be the latest version of Android but the software inside the Cherry Mobile Flare S4 Plus is pretty good because it sports a stock Android interface and there are only a few pre-installed applications.
Camera
The smartphone packs a 16-megapixel rear camera along with the LED flash and while the smartphone’s camera might sound good in numbers, the 16-Megapixel Rear camera of the smartphone is really a hit and miss. Check out the photos that I took below
Verdict
The Cherry Mobile Flare S4 isn’t the company’s best offering but it is the best among the Flare family. The spec of the smartphone is really good for its price and yes, this smartphone is really a good buy.
